Introduction

XOOPS CMS is an extensible, OO (Object Oriented), easy to use dynamic web content management system (CMS) written in PHP. XOOPS is the ideal tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more.

XOOPS is easy to install and allows a website administrator to be productive quickly. XOOPS is an open source project used to achieve a dynamic, interactive website for community, corporate portals, intranets, or just a simple web log. After using the web based installer to install the XOOPS core scripts and configuration a website administrator can log in to the management area through a web browser to install content modules, manage content and users. Management of these key areas means the administrator has intuitive, web based tools that do not require any programming. XOOPS constists of a software package, a resource website and a very friendly community from around the world. These three are closely linked to provide a world class internet experience.

XOOPS is highly scalable, from a simple personal weblog or journal, a community website, or a full fledged enterprise installation. XOOPS has numerous modules that can be used to create all the functionality required of the system, e.g. News, Forums, Downloads, Web Links, etc. Customized modules can be developed by users and integrated seamlessly with the core to serve specific needs.

Where did the term XOOPS originate?

XOOPS is an acronym of eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System. Though started as a portal system, XOOPS has evolved over the years to provide many features of a content management system. The XOOPS core can serve as a web framework for use by small, medium and large sites.
